Ideal festive treats for your pets
Seven out of ten owners said they will buy Christmas presents for their pets.

ACCORDING to the statistics, spending on pet care continues to increase in South Africa, and this will certainly be the case during the coming festive season.
Seven out of ten owners said they will buy Christmas presents for their pets and more than half will put the gift under the tree.
Dr Guy Fyvie, veterinary advisor for Hill’s Pet Nutrition, recommends healthy treats or toys that encourage exercise and play, as excellent gift options for the four-legged members of the family.
‘A ball or rope toy are classic choices for dogs. Cats enjoy ping-pong balls, paper bags or anything that moves easily and makes a bit of noise’.
Rather than over-indulging your pet with inappropriate food, or over-spending on expensive gifts, Dr Fyvie says the best recipe for a happy pet is a balanced diet, being active and companionship. “If your pet could make a Christmas wish it would probably be simply spending time with the people they love.”
When it comes to edible goodies, Fyvie says new Hill’s Ideal Balance treats are ‘ideal’ .
If you are watching your pet’s weight (vets say more than half the pets they see are overweight), new Hill’s Prescription Diet Metabolic treats for cats and dogs may be a more suitable option.
