Major donation to boost community ‘Tree for Life’ project

RBCT empowered the Wildlands Conservation Trust with a R300 000 donation.

EXCITEMENT ruled the Ndindima community in eSikhaleni when Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) empowered the Wildlands Conservation Trust with a R300 000 contribution at eNtabeni Primary School last Thursday.

According to RBCT Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nosipho Siwisa-Damasane, the funds will assist the community of KwaDube with their indigenous Tree for Life project.

In a community where learning begins under a tree and where the unemployment rate is high, residents have been involved in the tree programme for several years.

They grow indigenous trees and exchange them for tanks, bicycles, groceries, building materials and school uniforms.

‘The tree project has become the core of the Ndindima community. In the partnership with Wildlands, we aim to change people’s lives and put food on the table for many,’ Siwisa-Damasane said, adding that the money will be held by the Wildlands Conservation Trust and would not go direct to the community.

More than 400 pupils from the school are now involved in the indigenous Tree for Life project.
