Youth leadership in spotlight

Empangeni schools show off future leadership potential.

EIGHT youths were selected from five Empangeni schools to attend the annual Rotary Youth Leadership Course hosted by the Rotary Club of Port Shepstone.

This Rotary initiative is a week-long leadership course offered annually throughout the world, and students who have been identified by their schools as having leadership qualities are selected and then sponsored to attend the camp.

The eight students from local high schools – St Catherine’s, Empangeni High, Old Mill High, Amangwe High and Richem Secondary School – were sponsored by the Empangeni Rotary Club, with additional assistance by some club benefactors.

Each student was asked to share their experiences with the audience.

Rotarian Rose Cyrus said, ‘It was truly encouraging to listen to these articulate young folk speaking with passion, knowledge and, most of all, insight into what is required of a good leader.

‘The future of Zululand and indeed our country will be in good hands if these fine young students develop into the leaders they are destined to become.’
