Funtime paddle for autism

Raft race for charity.

THE 4th annual ‘anything that floats’ Canal Craft Challenge takes place on Saturday 13 December and promises to start the holiday season with a bang.

The fundraising event is hosted by the Zululand Yacht Club (ZYC) and the Zululand Observer, in aid of the Able Centre, a non-profit organisation offering early intervention for Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Entry fee is R100 per raft plus R20 per crew member.

Rafts should be as safe and as environmentally friendly as possible and must be named and decorated, including sponsor advertising.

As an added bonus, organisers have arranged for a ‘raft building’ opportunity at the ZYC on the Friday evening prior to the event, to cater for visitors and late entries.

some materials will be provided and cost will be R100 per raft and R30 per crew member, plus R50 to tow the craft to the start at Green Africa Nursery.

The Canal Craft Challenge – not a race! – will start at 10am with briefing at 9.30am.

Spectators will have plenty of chance to get involved as teams paddle or drift along the route, with a compulsory half-way stop.

Various prizes will be on offer and teams should dress up and carry unharmful ‘ammunition’ as well as safety equipment.

For those not paddling there will be a morning of fun at the ZYC for just R20 per person entry fee.
