THREE men were safely helped to shore after their ski-boat ran aground onto the dolosse on the South Arm of the Port.
‘NSRI Richards Bay volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority and launched sea rescue craft, ‘Spirit of Round Table’, said Dorian Robertson, NSRI Richards Bay station commander.
The 4.5 metre Bay craft, ‘Flight of Eagle’ ran aground with crew members Edwin van der Watt (48), his father, EC van der Watt (67) and a friend, WD de Wet (62). The men were not injured and brought safely to shore.
‘They had launched at 11am from the Richards Bay Ski-boat Club to go fishing but shortly into their trip the boat motor died and they were washed onto the Port South Arm and they managed to jump off the boat onto the wall,’ said Robertson.
He added, a tow-line was rigged to the casualty boat and the sea rescue craft pulled the boat free of the dolosse and towed the boat to the NSRI base where she was moored.
