Teen drowns at Sodwana

The 15-year-old boy was swept out to sea.

SIPHELELE Mnguni of Mbazwana became another of numerous drowning victims in northern KwaZulu-Natal when strong currents washed him out to sea at Sodwana.

Friends of the 15-year-old said Mnguni went back into the sea at about midday after a short break from swimming.

His friends warned him that the current was getting stronger, but the teenager ignored their advice.

He was reportedly swept out to sea by a strong wave and disappeared shortly thereafter.

Police divers were called to the scene and, together with SAPS Water Wing, conducted a thorough search over four days.

The body was not found.
