I WAS invited along with my husband to a thank you dinner and quick briefing on the CANSA Relay.

I really thought that these people had it wrong. Why thank us when we should so obviously be thanking these people in their endless pursuit of giving cancer a go for its money.

I was particularly fond of the Bell Equipment team who always turn up at this event with a massive group of people, a driving force in bettering the fight against cancer.

This team is awesome, their spirit is just such proof that they do it because it’s more than just the money, it’s the love being put into this community – and this is every year!

It’s quite a bummer to not see the other big companies’ names and people fighting it out right next to them though.

I told Lizelle van Zyl, Community Mobiliser at CANSA uThungulu, that she’s truly making a difference with her hard work and dedication along with every person who has put themselves into this event. She humbly blushed, but Lizzy didn’t know…

My mother-in-law fought the battle, wanted to desperately participate this year, wheelchair bound or not!

She was bought a Survivor T-shirt but could not make your event, so we went on her behalf.

Saturday my sister-in-law took a photo of my mother-in-law, in her hospital bed with the survivor T-shirt resting on her. Sunday morning she passed away.

See, with everything I’ve learnt from cancer over the last two years, it’s support, support and support.

Our family was blessed with friends and family, but most importantly I would like to say this: ‘There is no person who has ‘lost’ their fight against cancer because even when you come face-to-face with death, you step into it victoriously, whole and healed as your Father promised.’

My heart goers out to all the families and my appreciation to all you special kind people who help make it easier and who keep fighting for us all every day, the families and the warriors.
