A 33-year-old man was fatally knocked by a moving truck after he reportedly ‘threw himself’ in front of the vehicle on the N2 highway near KwaMsane on Thursday afternoon.
Police confirmed that the deceased, Xolani Sibiya had reportedly visited his brother Bongani a few minutes before the incident at around 3.30pm, adding that he wanted to commit suicide.
‘According to his brother, the deceased went to the side window and threw his room keys inside his room before leaving,’ said Captain Jabulani Mdletshe.
‘The brother claimed that within a few minutes he heard the screeching noise of the vehicle braking and suspected that he had thrown himself in front of the truck. He followed the direction of the noise to the nearby N2 highway and on arrival found his brother dead on the scene.’
A suicide note was also found underneath his room door.
Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
