AN eNseleni grandfather, who lured his 11-year-old victim into his kitchen and raped her in 2008, was sentenced at Empangeni Regional Magistrate’s Court to 20 years imprisonment.
During the court case, it was revealed that the child had visited her grandparents in eNseleni when her grandfather sexually assaulted her.
The girl then reported the incident to her grandmother.
Shortly after the attack the man was arrested and charged with rape.
He appeared in court several time before he was convicted.
KZN Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcomed the sentence handed down to the grandfather.
‘The accused was expected to protect his granddaughter from criminal activities but instead he raped her.
‘His behaviour was not acceptable and he deserves to rot in jail,’ she said.
