Empangeni taxi boss gunned down

Empangeni Taxi Association chairman killed in an apparent ambush attack outside eShowe.

THE eShowe SAPS has opened a murder case after the chairman of the Empangeni Taxi Association, Sbahle Tokozani Mthembu (41) was killed in an apparent ambush attack at Ofasimba outside eShowe.

Mthembu was with a female passenger Nqobile Vundla-Mbokazi travelling in the area at around 10pm on Friday.

Several shots were fired at their vehicle, killing Mthembu instantly.

Vundla-Mbokazi was injured and taken to the eShowe District Hospital for treatment.

Several rifle and pistol cartridges were found scattered on the scene of the attack.

The motive for the murder is not known at this stage.
