Hospital management under investigation
Hlabisa Hospital management team suspended after alleged malpractice.
KWAZULU-NATAL Health MEC, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, has suspended the Hlabisa Hospital management team and ordered a probe into alleged malpractice.
The announcement was made last week in a meeting attended by local dignitaries, including Hlabisa Mayor, Velenkosini Hlabisa, and the hospital board and staff.
Dhlomo has appointed an interim task team to replace the suspended management members for the duration of the probe.
Those relieved of their duties include the CEO, Deputy Nurse Manager, Human Resources Manager and Finance Manager.
‘Nobody has been fired yet, but the people who have been occupying senior management positions are to report to the district office while the investigation is taking place,’ said Dhlomo.
The investigation follows numerous service delivery related complaints, the most recent being non-functioning laundry facilities.
Patients’ bedding was allegedly being washed by hand and laid on the grass to dry before being returned, un-ironed, to the patients.
‘The people who allow this show that they do not care. It is unhygienic ‘ said Dhlomo.
