Richards Bay team claim angling honours
Clubs competed for points in the Zululand Shore Angling league.
WITH bait boxes packed and fishing gear double checked, Zululand anglers invaded the Zinkwazi and Blythdale areas last weekend to stack up points for their clubs in the Zululand Shore Angling league.
Teams that opted to go after Dusky Sharks and Blue Rays made the right call, as a number of these species where landed, measured and released back into the water.
Richards Bay’s Johann Beukes emerged as the top male angler with 76.6 weight points, with KwaMbonambi’s Maryna Nieuwenhuis claiming the ladies title with 20.5 weight points.
Tugela angler Barry Tedder was the top master angler of the weekend with 35.8 weight points.
Terence Jackson of Umzingazi Angling Club landed the biggest edible fish after winning the battle with a 4.5kg Speckled Snapper which he caught and released at Mission Rocks.
Beukes landed the biggest inedible fish by hooking a 18.3kg Blue Ray, which earned him maximum points.
The next competition will be hosted by Richards Bay Angling Club on 18 and 19 October, with anglers following a common venue format.
