John Ross Parkway completion in sight

The construction on the John Ross Parkway has almost come to an end.

THE John Ross Parkway is nearing completion and will be fully operational by the end of the month.

This was announced by Zululand Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice Chairman, Mike Patterson, at the Divisional AGM meeting on Thursday at the Empangeni Country Club.

According to RHDHV Construction engineer Drew Wilson’s written report, the ‘practical completion’ of the road will be finished by the end of September, with ‘total completion’ at the end of October. The new road-over-rail bridge has been painted and all the road markings are in place, ready for the official opening today (Monday).

The upgrading of Tanner Road has also been running smoothly with completion also scheduled for the end of September.

Other items on the agenda included Empangeni’s infrastructure backlog relating to the condition of the roads, pavements, parks and gardens, as well as general cleaning of the central business district.

Members of the public who attended the meeting conceded that maintenance by the municipality was taking place and an improvement in Empangeni was noticeable.
