Rapist gets 10-year sentence

A 28-year-old man, Sandile Sifiso Buthelezi, was sentenced on Tuesday by the Ulundi Regional Court to 10 years imprisonment for raping a 79-year-old victim.

The case was reported to the police after the victim was awoken by Buthelzi while sleeping in her house at Ezibhembeni near Nkandla at midnight on New Year’s Day.

She was overpowered and raped and the accused fled the scene.

A rape case was opened at Nkandla Police Station and the docket was transferred to the eShowe Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, which traced and arrested the accused.
