TO prevent children infections such as polio, measles and smallpox, the uMhlathuze Municipality’s health team reminded parents about the importance of immunisation during a ‘catch-up’ drive last week.
The community outreach programme was spearheaded by the uMhlathuze Clinic’s Chief Community Health Nursing Sister, Elsa Davis.
Her team visited schools in the area and assisted 288 children under five years and 1 259 above that age.
‘I am pleading with all parents to ensure that their children follow their immunisation schedules to prevent infections. Some parents fail to keep track, resulting in their children skipping immunisation. It is important to keep their booklets and bring the children in at the right time. Prevention is very important,’ Davis said.
She added they would be visiting primary schools for Human Papilloma virus vaccinations from 29 September.
