WATER rationing measures will be introduced with immediate effect for residents within the City of uMhlathuze.
The municipality announced this morning that water supply would be partially restricted between 10pm and 4am daily. This is as a result of unstable water levels at Lake Mzingazi since the beginning of the year.
The latest water level reading was recorded at 26.7% as at 13 September.
According to a notice sent to residents this morning, this is a temporary arrangement, which will remain in place until the water supply is restored back to normal.
Affected wards in the City include wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 26.
Loud hailers and smses will also be used to alert customers about the current situation.
Why do our water at homes get switched off but transnet is wasting water.they got watercars watering the hole of transnet 24hour a day for dust.
We live in Kwambonambi, we have had restrictions for about a month now. Yesterday and right through the night we had none.
WATER PROBLEM
Also, I read in the news paper that there might be water restrictions. It would be a great public service if the water use restrictions were printed in the local newspaper along with water conservation tips over a period of several weeks. We’ve got 2 options to resolve this matter:
OPTION 1
Way back in the mid 1980’s the Borough made plans to make use of an “un-used old oil pipe line” to get water from the Eshowe Dam during those times when there had been periodic water shortages in the past, sometimes severe.
OPTION 2
The biggest dam in Zululand, after 40 years its not been used properly! The Jozini Dam (aka Pongolapoort Dam) 200km from here, needs a pipeline to Richards Bay and region. It might be good for the society along the route who frequently experiences water shortages when boreholes dries up.
