NO goals, but no shortage of good football and magic moments.
It ended 0-0 between Thanda Royal Zulu FC and Vasco da Gama at the uMhlathuze on Saturday afternoon – probably a fair result as both teams had their chances but defences held the upper hand.
This was a match of excellent quality, with plenty of crisp passing, good reading of the game, tenacious tackling and clever use of space.
In a game of relentless attack and counter-attack, there was lots of ball for the strikers but very few shots at goal.
The Cape visitors started the better and could have been two up within 10 minutes but a wild shot well over the bar and an incredible, one-handed diving save at point blank range by Amabhubesi keeper Nimrode Tsengwa spared disappointment for the home fans.
As the half progressed, Thanda took over and created many opportunities but a reluctance to shoot early gave the Vasco defence time to re-organise.
The second half followed the same pattern, both sides exerting pressure and again the men at the back holding sway in frustrating the front men.
Rewarded with a point each, Thanda continue their amazing unbeaten run in the National First Division, extending it to 17 games, while high-riding
Vasco will spread the word that Thanda are formidable opponents this season, home or away.
Thanda travel to the Free State to take on Maluti FET College this Saturday before returning to Richards Bay to host league newcomers
Royal Eagles on 27 September.
