THE Tshalanathi youth project, in partnership with uThungulu Community Foundation and ZCBF, equipped five schools in KwaMbonambi with gardening tools on Tuesday. The purpose of the initiative was to introduce gardening in schools, homes and communities.
Project leader Sandile Mdletshe educated pupils about the importance of agriculture and the role it plays in society.
‘It is important to know from a young age how the soil works and to benefit from it. In our schools and homes we must improve ourselves and learn more about gardening. ‘Every year there will be a school competition for the school with the most beautiful garden. We must always look after our gardens and work together with teachers,’ said Mdletshe.
eNhlanzini Primary, Nzalabantu, KwaMbonambi School, Nhlabane and Mankwathini Primary School benefitted on the project. They received watering cans, gardening forks and spades.
