8 right ways to wash your hair
Hair washing techniques that benefit the health of your strand.
THERE is no better feeling than knowing your hair is clean and smelling fresh.
So, you wash it almost every day, but are you doing it the right way?
There is an art to everything, including washing your hair.
Techniques can make a world of difference to the bounce, shine and health of your hair but if you’re doing it the wrong way, you unknowingly damage your strand.
So, here goes…
•Rinse your hair with hot water because it opens the cuticles which helps in removing any dirt or product trapped in the hair, also allowing easy absorption of the oil in the conditioner.
•To protect and moisturise the ends, condition and rinse lightly before shampooing.
•Next, lather up only at the scalp. The hair closest to the scalp is the youngest and certainly the oiliest so don’t use more shampoo than you need.
•Remember that friction permanently damages your hair’s cuticle which causes breakage and frizz. So, when you wash your hair, think of it as washing a new born baby – carefully and gently!
•Do not wash in circular motions as this tangles the hair, and never tug back and forth at the ends like you’re washing a rag. A vertical stroke with medium pressure is the best way!
•Despite instructions on the back of your shampoo bottle, there’s no need to wash your hair twice. Only if your hair is very dirty and the first wash didn’t produce lather then once more is enough.
•Once your hair is clean and rinsed, squeeze the excess water out before applying conditioner and keep in mind, the longer the conditioner stays in, the better it absorbs; and don’t condition the roots too much, the natural oil is more concentrated up there and is sufficient.
•Lastly, finish off with cold water – this will close the cuticle and seal the outer layer, giving your hair a great shine!
