ON Wednesday evening my wife and I decided to go to the Veldenvlei Sports Complex to enjoy some Frisbee throwing and even roller skate on the empty parking lot to see if our balance was still intact.
But it wasn’t long before we were unceremoniously told that we could not use the Sports Complex without an approval from the Municipality!
This seemed strange, because at the same time there were lots of other people on the race track and on the basketball court.
When I asked the runners if they needed a letter to use the track, I was told that they were not asked, nor were the basketball players.
I’m a little confused – is this a racial issue or because the security guards have a power complex?
In the meantime, I’m going to approach the Municipality and request the infamous ‘letter of permission’.
Ironically, the Sports Complex is open for late night parties with drunken revelers, but not for field sports or harmless recreation of any kind.
