ON behalf of the Mtunzini Athletic Club, I would like to thank the Zululand Observer most sincerely for their generous sponsorship towards our Mtunzini Bush Run/Walk which was hosted this past Sunday, 10 August.
This year heralded a new event with the 10km run/walk being incorporated to cater for those not wanting to spend too long out there.
This proved to be an extremely successful addition with 150 combined run/walk entrants.
Once again we were blessed with a fantastic turnout, with well over 500 athletes altogether excluding the 5km fun runners taking us to well more than 600 participants.
Many congratulated us on an exceptional event with many insisting they will be back again next year.
The committee once again rose to the occasion, and the event ran like a well oiled machine.
As you know our run/walk covers a distance of 10 or 16km and the route enchants and entices runners through beautiful cool forest trails, through mangrove swamps, over sand dunes and onto the pristine beach.
There was also the 5km fun run, which the children and the not-so-fit loved – this route took them through parts of the golf course and indigenous forest.
All 10km entrants were awarded the original bush run medal and the coverted Mtunzini Bush challenge T-shirt went to all the 16km entrants.
The day ended with the prize giving and fantastic spot prizes to the envy of many.
With your, and other sponsorships, we are able to offer this delightful experience to many athletes around the country, as well as it benefiting the local community.
This includes donations to underprivileged schools, local Nature Reserve, Guardian Angels and the local primary school who are finding it difficult to continue with reduced government funding.
Thank you for contributing to our success.
