MYSTERY surrounds the gruesome discovery early Monday evening of the partially clothed body of an adult white male in the boot of a hired SUV in the outside parking lot at Birdswood Secondary School.
The cause of death of the victim, who had been reported missing since Thursday evening, is still to be determined.
According to neighbours, the white Nissan X-Trail had been in the parking lot since Friday morning, but nobody had assumed anything unusual as there had been activities at the school over the weekend.
‘The security guard called me late in the afternoon to say there was a bad smell coming from the car,’ said a neighbour.
‘I looked through the back window and saw the man and immediately called the police.’
The Fire Department was called to force open the back door and the body was removed shortly before 8pm.
The vehicle was taken to the Richards Bay Police Station on a flatbed truck and is now being examined by SAP forensic detectives.
