THE third annual Zululand Observer Dice4DICE charity run took place at the Umfolozi Casino Resort in Empangeni this weekend and set new records from the word ‘go’.
During the parade through Richards Bay, what must surely be the most expensive fender bender in Zululand history, a Porsche drove into the back of a Ferrari.
But this did not dampen the spirits of participants. In fact, they joked about it and the two unlucky drivers were endlessly teased by their fellow supercar drivers.
Motoring enthusiasts braved the inclement weather conditions to check out the line-up of showstoppers including two Ferrari 458s, two Jaguars, one Lamborghini, a Nissan GTR and a host of Porsches.
At the charity auction on Saturday night at the Casino, the guys and girls showed that they are not only the fastest on the road but also the most generous, and another record was set.
Close to R400 000 was raised for the Zululand Observer’s charity arm DICE (Do I Care Enough).
This is more than double last year’s figure.
Zululand Observer Managing Director and founder of DICE, Regina Anthony, said she was incredibly overwhelmed by the generosity and compassion shown by participants.
‘Sincere thanks to Zahid Hassim and his wife, Jeena for the hard work and effort placed in organising the event and in particular the local Indian community for their tremendous support. All proceeds will go towards worthy projects in Zululand,’ she said.
