Youth league backs Mashaba to lead local ANC

Battle lines drawn in the ANC Musa Dladla region.

BATTLE lines have been drawn and tensions are running high within the African National Congress (ANC) in the Musa Dladla region.

Leading up to the regional conference in October, the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) publicly announced their preferred candidates to lead their organization during a special press conference in Empangeni last Saturday.

ANCYL regional Secretary Njabulo Nzuza declared that the league is firmly behind the current ANC regional Chairperson and uThungulu Deputy Mayor, Thulani Mashaba.

‘We believe Mashaba should continue to lead this region. He has served the organization with diligence and care, and has a history of struggle, leading the organization from branch level,’ said Nzuza.

‘The ANCYL does not have time to attend to newcomers who think societal status gives them a right to lead the organization We do not want people who will disappear at the first sign of adversity and difficulty.’

Nzuza also referred to the party’s dissatisfaction over the current state of affairs at the uMhlathuze Municipality.

‘We are worried about the snail’s pace of transformation in our municipality. The clean audit does not mean anything if people still have no roads, water and other services the municipality is suppose to provide. We believe that those who do not listen and work for the people, should shape up or ship out,’ Nzuza said.

The ANCYL also said they were behind Nonhle Mkhulisi, Tholi Gwala, Dudu Sibiya and Jeke Zulu to fill regional leadership positions.
