Pepper spray chaos leads to murder

A man was stabbed in the chest and face after an argument on a 'taxi'.

A QUARREL that broke out between two men in the back of a bakkie travelling from Richards Bay to KwaMbonambi led to a brutal death on Wednesday.

According to the KwaMbonambi SAPS, a war of words broke out among other passengers in the vehicle until one man used pepper spray on the other, affecting all the occupants.

When the bakkie stopped, all the passengers jumped out and ran away.

However, the rivals continued to fight at the bus stop.

‘The deceased reportedly threw a stone at the accused, hitting him on the forehead,’ said KwaMbonambi SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Aubrey Bongani Msane.

‘He sustained a serious open wound.

‘The accused then took out a knife and stabbed the man on the left side of the chest as well as on his mouth, just below the lower lip.

‘Both men were rushed to the Nseleni Clinic for medical attention, but the man with the knife wound was declared dead on arrival.

‘The accused was treated and arrested for murder,’ Msane said.

Mandla Hadebe appeared at the KwaMbonambi Magistrates Court on Thursday, where his case was postponed to 19 August for bail application.

Until then, he is being detained at the KwaMbonambi SAPS holding cells.
