TWO men armed with guns casually walked into Engen Jackson’s Convenience Centre, Empangeni and emptied the cashiers tills last night.
They made off with an undisclosed amount of money.
The incident which was caught on CCTV took place at 6pm and shows a male entering the shop, looking around and then making a phone call. Moments later he is joined by another male wearing a mask and carrying a hand gun in a white plastic packet.
The two males ordered the security guard to lie face down on the floor and not move then proceeded to empty the tills from behind the cigarette counter and the bakery, before stealing a cellphone from one of the cashiers.
According to garage owner, Craig Blaylock, the whole incident took no more than three minutes.
‘Besides the cashiers, and the one customer in the shop, nobody was aware that anything out of the ordinary was taking place. One of the petrol attendants walked right past the two suspects while they were holding the shop up. He only noticed what was going on when the men pointed a gun at him and told him to lie on the floor,’ explained Blaylock.
The two male suspects, after taking the money and cellphone, casually strolled out of the shop along the forecourt to a unidentified silver car waiting further down Main Road.
‘I am just relieved and thankful that nobody was hurt. The last thing you want at a petrol station is a shoot-out with the chance of members of the public getting seriously injured,’ said Blaylock.
A case of armed robbery was opened but no arrests have been made.

That’s easy to rob a garage! CCTV only hels to caught on tape but not linked to a security company or pilice! Where were your security staff at that stage? Just wondering. Beef up your security as well.
Is’nt it strange that both Engine garages got robbed in the past month? The one in the Bay and the one in Empangeni.. Just wondering if its the same gang?
