Mixed fortunes for Felixton

A visiting school from Oxford were hosted by Felixton College this week.

IT was a case of mixed fortunes for Felixton College yesterday afternoon when the girls hockey side beat visiting UK school Chipping Norton High School 5-1, but the rugby going down 27-5.

The visiting school from Oxford arrived on Zululand’s doorstep on Tuesday 29 July and were hosted by Felixton College until today.

The first team girls hockey sides took to the fields for the first of two games on the day.

Chipping Norton scored first, but the home side eventually found their feet and replied through captain Sethu Sithole to tie the game at 1-1 going into half-time.

The home girls then stepped it up a gear in the second half, with Hannah Bevis slamming in a hat-trick of goals and Kelly Motzouris netting one to end the game in Felixton’s favour.

The home rugby team found the going much tougher.

The visitors opened the scoring with a try under the sticks from broken play.

Felixton flanker Damon Welsh narrowed the gap with an unconverted try in the corner (7-5).

Chipping Norton gained a psychological edge by dotted down again just before half-time to stretch the lead (12-5).

The second half action saw the visitors take firm control of proceedings, running in 15 points to bring the final score to 27-5.

Zululand’s international referee Marius Jonker took charge of the game.

During their visit, the English visitors were also kept entertained by their hosts, spending time at iKhayalikaBaba and enjoying the sun and waves that Richards Bay’s beaches offered.

They also undertook trips to Hluhluwe and St Lucia before departing on Thursday.
