IT is alarming that Ngwelezane Hospital is becoming a playground for funeral parlour representatives who fill the hospital passages, corridors and even the wards where patients are being healed.
Many people who have just lost their relatives go to the hospital to make arrangements to bury their desceased, but the presence of the funeral parlour reps, who literally hound them with promises to help bury their dead, is unacceptable to say the least.
Bereaved relatives go there with a heavy heart and should not be hounded by these sharks.
When I recently lost my sister, three of these funeral reps approached me with a promise to assist with transport to go apply for a death certificate, transport my sister’s remains to their mortuary, make funeral arrangements, and bury my sister at a nominal fee.
I don’t think its ethical for these people to use the hospital as if they are going there to transport meat from a butchery.
This is a hospital, not a ‘slaghuis’ (butchery), or a garage selling cars – where people can just sell products for a commission.
I wish Ngwelezane Hospital management can put an end to this practice which is tainting the name of this hospital.
Let them advertise their services outside the hospital premises and not harass nurses and the bereaved. Death is not a laughing matter, but a very sad situation.
