Kiwi players showcase radical rugga

WATCH Hastings Boys' School perform the haka at Felixton College.

FELIXTON College received a hefty rugby lesson while suffering a 62-7 defeat to New Zealand’s Hastings Boys’ School on Friday afternoon at Felixton.

The side from Hawke’s Bay dominated from start to finish, playing an expansive brand of rugby, never before seen here at schoolboy level.

The visiting party dominated ball possession in the first half, having many strong runs, off-loading in the tackle and contact area which kept the momentum going forwards, resulting in points.

The side racked up 29 points in the first half, which included a 50m penalty kick.

The home lads managed to get on the scoreboard, thanks to a try from Thami Makoena, which Gladwell Maduna converted.

The Kiwi’s stepped it up in the second half, utilising field space, support runners and counter attacking from anywhere on the park.

This form of play resulted in a rain of tries with their tally ending on 62 points.

Felixton College, who came out of holiday mode for the game, just looked like all-sorts on the field.

‘Zululand has been a magnificent experience.

‘Our hosts Felxiton College are wonderful and we owe them a lot for their contribution to our tour.

‘The Hluhluwe game reserve and St Lucia Estuary visits have been fantastic experiences.

‘We thank all parents, staff and host families for making our stay here a memorable one,’ said Hastings’ coach Jason Bird. Felixton will host Chipping Norton from the United Kingdom on Wednesday 30 July, when they will play girls seven-a-side hockey and u18 rugby.
