‘THE toughest battles we face are the ones we wage in ourselves.’
These were the inspirational words of Maputo Corridor Logistics Initiative CEO, Barbara Mommen, who addressed the cream of Zululand entrepreneurs during the Businesswomen’s Association (BWA) Regional Achievers Awards at the Umfolozi Casino Resort on Thursday evening.
Sponsored by Telkom and RBCT, Zululand businesswomen were recognised for their unique ability to develop themselves and their businesses while transforming respective sectors. This coincided with the BWA’s commemoration of 35 years of courage, achievement and leadership.
Elaborating on the importance of leaving a legacy, Mommen said even the most famous and successful women of our time questioned their own motives.
She said the only obstacles on the path to great achievements were ones set by individuals.
Mommen said ‘getting out of your own way’ made a strong impact on how businesswomen of today could avoid self-doubt.
The proceedings continued with another inspiring and riveting speech by Zululand Chamber of Commerce and Industry President (ZCCI) and RBCT representative, Judith Nzimande.
The business leader said one should never draw a comparison with another as the individuality of today’s businesswomen burned a ‘unique flame’.
Passionate about promoting business development in the area, Nzimande is also the first female president to head the esteemed business body.
The evening culminated with the prestigious awards where Tracy Coetzer walked away as the winner in the Corporate category, Melanie Stewart scooped the Entrepreneur category while the Professional category was won by Ingrid Osborne.
