uMhlathuze doing it for Madiba

City of uMhlathuze started celebrating Mandela Day earlier than others.

AS part of celebrating Nelson Mandela Day, the City of uMhlathuze has embarked on a clean-up campaign which began on Tuesday and will run until today (Friday).

A team comprising senior municipal officials, Councillors and community caregivers joined forces to plant flowers, do maintenance work at the B-rank taxi facilities in Empangeni, fix potholes, do road markings and empty waste skips, among other things.

The team, led by uMhlathuze’s Deputy Manager for Community Services, Thembinkosi Oliphant, also went to Matshana Reserve in Ward 24, where they picked up litter. They were joined by volunteers, most of whom were school children.

Ward 24 Councillor Getrude Mkhize said they were doing this as a response to Madiba’s call to make a difference in people’s lives.
