Ngwelezane crime hike

A 42-year-old woman returned home to find her front door broken down and two laptops and an undisclosed amount of money stolen.

NGWELEZANE residents have been victims of several burglaries.

According to Empangeni SAPS Spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, numerous cases were opened during the weekend.

In one, a 42-year-old woman returned home to find her front door broken down and two laptops and an undisclosed amount of money stolen.

‘We also had a 31-year-old man report that his phone worth R4 000 was stolen out of his house while he was in the bathroom. All entry points were secured but the suspected criminals still gained entry,’ he said.

‘Later, 52-year-old Ngwelezane resident was robbed of his white Toyota Hilux. Some people in the area knocked on his front door and shouted that they desperately needed help to urgently transport a sickly relative to the hospital.

‘The man opened his door to help and two men stood there pointing firearms at him and demanded the keys to his vehicle.

‘Fearful for his life and that of his family, the man handed over the keys and the criminals drove off,’ said Mdlalose.

The community is urged to report all criminal activity so sufficient patrol vehicles may be deployed.

‘These matters also need to be brought up in their war room meetings and if the community has any solutions or suggestions to alleviate the crime, they must alert the police,’ he said.
