WITH just one day to go, the Zululand Observer is gearing up to erect the longest charity washing line ever in Empangeni and Richards Bay this Friday.
Putting it all out on the line for charity, the ZO’s ‘Hang out with Madiba’ campaign on Nelson Mandela International Day gets underway from 7am to 3pm.
Washing lines will be erected in front of the newspaper’s offices in Empangeni (Baines Road) and in the open space between the Civic Centre and the East Central Arterial in Richards Bay.
All you need to do is bring along packets of pegs to hang up your laundry of love, which will be distributed via the ZO’s charity arm – DICE (Do I Care Enough?) to needy organisations and disaster management units on the same day.
This year the ZO has partnered with the City of uMhlathuze and the Rotary Clubs of Empangeni and Richards Bay to ensure that Zululanders devote 67 minutes of their lives in a novel and charitable way.
In its third year running, the initiative has seen hundreds of Zululanders peg up jackets, jerseys, scarves, beanies and blankets throughout the day.
Service clubs, school children and business owners are also invited to peg up donated items of clothing onto the extra-long washing line.
More than 1 000 items of winter clothing were collected in 2013 and the aim is to double the support this year. See you at the ZO washing line on Friday.
