PLANNING is well underway for the 8th annual SANCA/Bay Watch ‘Walk Away From Drugs’ event, which takes place on 30 August.
SANCA staff and the volunteer committee are putting plenty of effort into preparations for this, the organisation’s major fundraiser.
Once again the fun-filled family walk will start and end at the Zululand Yacht Club, a tremendous venue that allows for lots of spectator activities, and the route will circle Naval Island via the Steel Bridge.
Along the way, helpers at each of the numerous water tables will also host a fun activity.
As usual there will be many giveaways and prizes on the day, with plenty of refreshments on offer.
‘While this is indeed a colourful, exciting event, the cause for which it is done is a a serious one indeed,’ said committee chairman Bheki Gumbi.
‘Everyone knows that drugs are rife in Zululand, and the large number of youth, especially, who are being enticed down the path of usage and addiction is growing by the day.
‘The funds that are raised during the walk will enable SANCA to do their good work of educating the community and treating those who have succumbed to drug and alcohol addiction.
‘We appeal for donations, prizes and sponsorships to make this a massive success.’
