Mtunzini pensioner stabbed

A Mtunzini resident was attacked and stabbed after a botched robbery.

A FAMILY tradition spanning more than a decade turned into a nightmare on Sunday night for Mtunzini residents Adrian and Renee Gray.

Year after year the Grays sit down and eat strawberries and cream while watching Wimbledon tennis on TV.

This year was no different and on Sunday night the couple were enjoying the men’s final.

‘Adrian was sitting in his favourite chair facing the television, but he has a side view outside through the lounge window. All of a sudden he got up and went outside, disappearing round the corner in the direction of his office,’ said Renee.

‘He was only gone for a minute, but then came rushing back and told me he had been attacked and stabbed. I could not believe it. I was shocked and there was so much blood everywhere.’

After helping her husband inside, Renee pressed the panic button and within minutes Imvula Security Services were on hand.

‘They were marvelous, they contacted the police and secured the area while we waited for local doctor, Dr Zwarts, who also arrived within minutes. He contacted an ambulance and treated my husband till it arrived.’

Adrian said he saw movement while watching the tennis and went to investigate. Approaching his office he was attacked from behind and stabbed in his left shoulder.

‘It all happened so quickly, I saw the movement, felt the pain and a moment later the attacker jumped over the wall and ran up the road with another male who was waiting on the pavement.’

Adrian was rushed to Life Empangeni Garden Clinic where it was discovered a rib had been broken, but thankfully no organs were punctured.

Adrian was released later in the week.
