THE SANCA Zululand Committee and staff are most grateful to ZO Editor, Dave Savides and the team for their kind support, extensive and excellent coverage of SANCA week activities in the Zululand Observer and Eyethu Bay Watch.

We also thank Marketing Consultant, Louise Calitz for rallying sponsorships to ensure that our community is made aware of this year’s challenge for SANCA Week and the alphabet index of the dangers of substance abuse.

The drug trade and drug use is increasing and the quantity and range of illegal drugs flooding the market is growing at an alarming rate.

Recently, we have seen an increase in the availability of Whoonga – a cheap combination drug with a low grade heroin, rat poison, dagga and/or ARV medication.

The toxicity of the contents makes this an extremely disturbing trend. The main substance of abuse in the community continues to be alcohol and dagga.

The young people of our community need accurate information about alcohol and drugs so that they can make informed and responsible decisions to resist drugs and benefit from a healthy and productive lifestyle.

Our preventative programmes are aimed at reducing the high incidence of substance abuse in our area.

Owing to the present economic climate, SANCA Zululand is struggling financially and we rely heavily on the generosity of the community.

We appreciate your interest and look forward to your continued support.
