Temporary solution for Mtuba mayoral saga

Confusion over Mtubatuba's mayoral situation temporarily resolved.

Confusion over Mtubatuba’s mayoral situation was temporarily resolved on Friday when a Member of the Executive Council for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) succeeded in obtaining an interim order from the High Court to restore the status quo at Mtubatuba Municipality to what was before the chaotic meeting of 19 June.

It was during this meeting that the executive council attempted to oust Robert Ntuli as mayor and appoint Cllr MQ Mkhwanazi in his place.

The order declares ‘the proceedings of the purported meeting… held on 19 June 2014 and all resolutions passed thereat… to be null and void ab initio and invalid’.

This officially deems Cllr Robert Ntuli Mayor of Mtubatuba. Respondents are required to show cause next month, if any, as to why the order should not be made final.
