A dusty ride with route obscured

GALLERY: See all the action from the Bell Big 5 Series.

THE results of the second leg of the Bell Big 5 Series, the Pick n Pay eShowe Elephant Classic, held in eShowe on Sunday, were delayed owing to many cyclists not following the correct route causing chaos in the timing.

Many of the top cyclists were among those who lost their way as the dust made it difficult to follow markers.

Unfortunately, some markers were also changed or removed before the race.

Officials quickly responded to the crisis and managed to sort out the route for the cyclists at the back.

It has been a nightmare for the Big 5 organisers to sort out the positions, due to some riders covering more and others less kilometres than they should have, drastically affecting their times.

General comments from the riders was that it was a great race, despite the markers issue.

With the low rainfall over the last month it was expected to be a dusty and dry race.
