Zululand choristers in TV show

Don't miss local singers in the 'Clash of the Choirs' at Unizul.

THE University of Zululand (Unizulu) is making musical waves around the country as some of its choir members feature in the popular reality show, Clash of the Choirs, on DSTV Channel 161.

Two of the KZN choir members from the university, Bhekani Buthelezi and Nontsikelelo Mbhele will be bringing the choir to the KwaDlangezwa campus on 24 June.

Buthelezi, who is also the conductor for the university choir, said renowned musical maestro Robbie Malinga is passionate about the visit to the university.

‘Malinga is very happy about this initiatives. This choir is doing well in the competition representing the province in the reality TV show,’ said Buthelezi, adding that Malinga had shown an interest in recording the album for the Unizulu choir.

The KZN Choir is a combination of members from all corners of the province who were auditioned and handpicked by the music legend (Malinga).

The choir has made it to the top three, the final stage of the competition.

Congratulating the KZN team, Unizulu Vice Chancellor Prof Fikile Mazibuko said, ‘The nurturing of our young talent in music and the performing arts generally, is one way a country defines its cultural space and creativity in the world’.

On Sunday viewers will get the chance to vote for the winner in the Clash of the Choirs competition.
