Special unit investigates road rage incident

Special unit to probe cop road rage incident.

AFTER charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm were laid at the Richards Bay police station this week, the ‘cop road rage’ docket was handed over to the Independent Police Investigation Directorate (IPID) in Durban.

This is ‘standard practice for serving police members,’ said the SAPS.

The Zululand Observer earlier reported the assault on Jozua Joubert, who was punched through his open car window after an altercation with a plain-clothed policeman, who allegedly also pointed a firearm at Joubert’s wife and two children who were with him.

A sergeant of the harbour-based Operational Response Service (ORS) unit has been named as the alleged suspect to be investigated by the IPID.

Richards Bay SAPS said the sergeant had laid a counter-charge of assault against Mr Joubert.

  1. Such a pity, I have some good experience with the Richards bay PD, it only takes one idiot to burn the department.
