Rhinos 2 grab first win

Rhinos take on Pietermaritzburg Collegians.

THREE tries in 15 minutes and their first win of the season is what the Rhino 2nd rugby team managed to achieve on Saturday afternoon at Mick Kelly Park in Empangeni.

Playing against Pietermaritzburg Collegians the team went on the field expecting a tight, hard and close game but after Rudolf du Plessis’ first try in the third minute the team’s tails were up. Two more tries followed in quick succession.
Twenty minutes later and the score was 19-7 in the Rhinos favour after
Pietermaritburg Collegians’ Owen McMillian scored their first try.

When the final whistle was blown the Rhinos walked away victorious with an end result of 38-29 and a much needed win.
The Rhino 1st were also up against Pietermaritburg Collegians when they faced their 1st team on Saturday.
With both teams fielding a Sharks player the sides were ready for a bone-crunching game.
The Rhinos were first to get points on the board after Dirk de Waal converted a penalty but their lead did not last long after Collegians came back and scored a try.

Forty minutes later and Collegians had three more tries under their belt and at half time the score was 28-6 in their favour.
Finally in the second half Rhinos’ Pierre Crouse managed to get past the Collegians’ defence to score their first and only try of the game.
When the final whistle went, much to the relief of the Rhinos players and some of their supporters, the score was 43-11 to the visitors.
