Bay dominate at home

Bay teams beat Harlequins on home ground.

RICHARDS Bay 1 and 2 continued their winning ways on Saturday, after both teams beat Harlequins at home in a First Division Reserve League clash.

Richards Bay 2 kicked off proceedings when they beat the visiting side 27-5.

The game was evenly matched in the first half, with both teams exchanging blows and capitalising on the few opportunities given.

It was the home side that went into the shed at half time with a 13-5 lead, thanks to two tries from Pierre Nel and a penalty conversion from Brendon (aka Bobby van Jaarsveld) Beukes.

The home side then upped their game in the second half, which Harlequins battled to cope with, resulting in the end score reading 27-5 to the Bay.

Pierre Nel and Anthony van Niekerk dotted down for the Bay brutes, with Jandré du Toit converting both tries.

Du Toit (forwards) and Nel (backline) were awarded the men of the matches awards for their great contributions during the game.

The first team encounter followed, which proved ultra physical between the two forward packs.

Rugby is a strange game which often relies on the bounce of the ball, which on this day was in the home team’s favour.

Richards Bay played phenominal rugby and were rewarded with sensational tries which kept the local crowd thoroughly entertained.

Jimmy Enslin (4), JP Rossouw, Dylan Coulson, Frank Hughes and Frans van Dyk all crossed the whitewash for the Bay lads to claim their four try bonus point.

Rossouw kicked two penalties and four conversions to end the team’s score on 56 points.

The forwards hunted as a pack, giving their backline front-foot ball which resulted in the backline running circles around the opposition.

The Bay lads claimed a well deserved 56-24 victory and will now claim top spot on the First Division Reserve League log.

Frans van Dyk (forwards) and Jimmy Enslin (backline) claimed the men of the match awards for their efforts on the field.

Richards Bay 1 and 2 will take on UKZN Durban at home on Saturday in their next clash

Kick-off is at 2pm for the second side with the first team at 3.30pm.
