ONGOING violent crime in the Melmoth area persists, including the discovery on Monday evening (19 May) of the body of Makhanyaze Primary School principal, Peter Chauke.
He was missing for three days and it is believed he was kidnapped and tortured before being murdered.
His vehicle was found in the Babanango taxi rank on Saturday and his body in Melmoth on Monday evening.
Chauke was found with his arms and hands tied up and part of his ear was missing.
There were also bullet wounds to his head.
He had left his home on Friday to visit family in Limpopo, but did not arrive at his destination.
The family became suspicious when they were unable to contact him on his cell phone and the matter was reported to the police.
Provincial police spokesperson Thulani Zwane said a case of murder is being investigated by the Melmoth SAPS and to date no arrests have been made.
