Masked robbers hit Bay house

Three men hold up security guard at residential property in Meerensee

THREE masked robbers hit a Meerensee house yesterday in the early hours and loaded household electrical items onto a bakkie before fleeing.

According to Richards Bay SAPS spokesperson Captain Debbie Ferreira, suspects wearing balaclavas threatened the security guard stationed at the house in Kolsterkring with a firearm.

They demanded the keys to the house and vehicle from the domestic worker and loaded household appliances onto a Colt Bakkie belonging to the homeowner.

Locking up the security guard and domestic worker inside a room, they then fled with the vehicle, which was later recovered in the Khondweni area.

The homeowner was not at home at the time of the incident.

Police have urged residents to be on the lookout for suspicious activity and to take extra caution when entering and exiting their premises.

In separate and unrelated incidents last week, a car was stolen in Mackeral Street and several properties have also been targeted by copper pipe thieves who stripped the metal from the outside walls of residential properties in the suburb.
