Off the chain: Beating exam stress

How to fight those exam butterflies.

SO it’s coming up to ‘that time of the year’ again. We don’t like to talk about it, but there is no escaping it. Exams are just around the corner and the stress levels are on their way up! When it comes to exams, stress can play a huge roll, that’s why it is good to know just how to fight those sleepless nights and constant worries away.

Study YOUR way

As weird as it sounds, studying is something very personal. When it comes to revision, work with what’s best for you. Everyone thinks that the only way to study is to sit at your desk and read over your notes for hours and hours. If you find that hanging off a tree branch while reading your notes is the best way to absorb all that information, do it! Studying is something that can be done in many ways, so choose a way that best suites you.

Listen

Tune those ears in when it comes to the crucial last weeks before exams. Any bit of information your teachers give out can be the difference between a pass and a fail. Remember to take notes if you think you’re going to forget!

Take a break

Taking a break is just as important as studying. Those few minutes of rest allow your brain to just relax, getting you ready for the next session. Focusing yourself on something completely off the topic can even sprout new ideas for understanding work you battled with before.

Cater to your cravings

Forget about a diet, if you’re craving pizza and a giant mug of hot chocolate, go for it! The stress of exams and studying can easily be relieved by satisfying those cravings. Just make sure you eat enough every day to keep that brain active. As soon as your mind starts wondering, you know you probably need a sugary treat.

Like Madonna says, Get physical!

Academics and sport go hand in hand. Keeping active not only exercises the body, but it works the mind. Make sure you dedicate some time towards sport and exercise during exam times. You will feel healthier and more motivated towards your studies.

Stay positive!

Even though it’s a stressful time of the year, try your hardest to keep those positive thoughts flowing. When you’re on the verge of throwing in the towel, just remember how fulfilling it will feel when you receive those great results knowing you put so much effort in to your work.
