What goes up must come down

The deadline for political parties to remove their posters has expired.

TODAY marked the deadline for political parties to remove all election posters lining the streets of uMhlathuze.

According to an agreement with Council, political parties had seven days after the election day to bring down the hundreds of colourful election boards strapped on light poles throughout the City.

But with the deadline passing yesterday, the municipality will now remove the posters and keep the deposits paid by election parties at the start of campaigning.

There was no limit on the number of political posters, which have become a common feature in the run-up to the elections.

However, with the ballot fanfare over, it was unlikely the posters would come down as quickly as they were erected.

uMhlathuze Deputy Municipal Manager: City Development, Lindani Khoza told the Zululand Observer on Wednesday the respective political parties had to remove their posters within the specified window period.

‘If they are not removed within this time frame, the municipality will contract a company to take them down and we will bill the respective parties as done in previous years,’ said Khoza.
