COMMUNITY leader, Dumisani Ndlazi (35) appeared briefly in the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court on Friday on a charge of rape.
The ward 26 committee member was charged earlier this year after allegedly having promised to help a young woman secure an enrolment at a local high school and then raping her.
The incident reportedly occurred at his home in Aquadene on 14 January.
His bail of R3 000 was extended and the matter postponed to 30 May.
The victim’s family had approached the accused for assistance with registration at a high school in Richards Bay.
The victim and her relative visited the accused’s house and gave him the relevant documents and he told them they could deliver the outstanding paperwork the following day.
When the victim went to drop off the completed documents the next morning at 7.30am, the accused invited her in and raped the young woman.
