Protestors torch Mandlazini hall

‘There will be no voting at Mandlazini’ say angry protestors.

SERVICE delivery riots broke out in Mandlazini in the early hours of this morning with angry protestors torching the Mandlazini Community Hall and threatening to burn down the home of uMhlathuze Ward 4 Councillor Nicholas Madondo.
Police had to use teargas and rubber bullets to disperse the more than 500 protesters, mostly local youth, and there are unconfirmed reports that one person has been shot.

Zululand Observer journalists are on the scene with police and the route to Richards Bay Minerals via Mandlazini has been closed. No vehicles are being allowed in and out of the suburb.

The angry strikers also threatened to burn down the homes of residents who chose to vote tomorrow.

According to sources, angry community members said, ‘There will be no voting at Mandlazini on election day.’

The irate community members reportedly hail from the buffer zone between Mandlazini and the Richards Bay Airport. Taking matters into their own hands, residents said they had been promised electricity for years and were ‘fed up’ of poor service delivery from the municipality.

Rumours about possible protest action surfaced from 10pm last night when residents were coerced to participate in the service delivery protest this morning.

Police are still on the scene and the situation is tense.

  1. why are they doing that, how would they, the protestors feel if there houses are burned to the ground. They will cry for the goverment to help them.

  2. nobody promissed to burn houses, but the resident of mandlazini is not voting tomorrow.

  3. LOL! The logic defies!

I bet in the near future they will complain that they don’t have a community hall. hahaha!

  4. Its time the youth took a stand against the corruption, neglect and total disregard of our area. The people responsible for the development of Mandlazini are useless, incompetent and corrupt.Talks and meetings had no results so its time for action. The youth wants to be informed and involved.I do not support the torching of the hall.but whatever it takes to be heard needs to be done.maybe folks will stop sleeping on the fluffy back-support chairs and catch a wake up.

  5. Well why not vote this is the time to put the right party in charge for you
The problem is that Some of use are will burn everything and than complain mow services delivety
    We live on promises

  6. Understandably they are angry at poor service delivery. But refusing to vote is not going to change their situation. Infact it is just going to make sure that they stay with what they have – nothing.
    Voting is their only answer

  7. Mandlazini residents are understandably angry but 2 say they r not conna vote on the 7 of May is the biggest mistake coz the only way 2 change who ever is currently incharge of their service delivery is thru voting the party that they feel is conna do a much beta job 4 them.
