Sandra still rocks the hockey fields

Sandra Mansvelder was selected for the Free State U/21 women's hockey side.

TALENTED, dedicated and intelligent are the terms best describing former Empangeni High School Headgirl (2013) Sandra Mansvelder (18), currently excelling both in the lecture rooms and out on the sport fields at the University of the Free State.

Mansvelder who is in her first year studying towards a BSc Actuarial Science degree, not only aced her first semester with A’s all round, but was also selected for the Free State U/21 women’s hockey team that won gold at the recent inter-provincial tournament in Randburg.

Mansvelder was a dominant force in Zululand schools hockey, representing KZN in all age groups.

She plays second team hockey for her university in the Varsity League, where the team has only lost one game this season, and first team for her res (Wag ‘n Bietjie) which won the Summer League.

‘I am just working very hard with my studies and playing hockey,’ says Sandra.

Playing on astro-turf has bettered her game and has tweaked her skills.

Sandra plans on finishing her three-year degree before moving into her honours year.

She then needs to complete 15 international courses before qualifying as an Actuarial Scientist, which takes between eight to 10 years.
