Voters’ views on elections

Reporter, ANDREW CORNEW asked Zululanders if they will be voting on Wednesday and what it meant to them.

After 20 years of democracy South Africa is keyed-up for the next elections taking place on Wednesday.

Sakhile Mahaye: Yes, I am voting and I am excited about it too. Its been 20 years of democracy and we need to see a change for the good. There is still too much violence, crime and poverty in this country and we need to change that. We can only do this if each and everyone of us use our vote.

Ron Morris: Yes I am voting next week. We have a right and a responsibility and, as South African citizens, we owe it to ourselves to make our mark and make a difference.

Adelaide Dambuza: Looking at the state of the nation today, I realise that we are on the precipice of a crisis. The way I see it, it is our responsibility as adults to affect change. If you’re over 18 and you have common sense, you ought to do the right thing and vote on May 7.

Phumzile Thango: Of course I will be voting and I don’t mind waiting in a queue in order to have my say. After 20 years of democracy, and many lives lost in the process of becoming free, I feel that it is important to use what we have been given. It's our vote and our country

Jabu Mthembu: I will most definitely be voting. We are making history, each and everyone! We need to use our right and responsibility in order to maintain and improve our democratic South Africa so future generations will be able to enjoy this beautiful country.

Nonhlanhla Ngema: I would not miss casting my vote for the world. I have seen how much has changed for the better in this country for all its people over the last 20 years. With my vote I feel I can help make a difference for the better in the new South Africa.
